Global Community

inside freesetFreeset - Rivertown Café is proud to partner with Freeset who represents global community within the café. We find the Freeset story not only inspirational but empowering.
Freeset is a fair trade business offering employment to women trapped in Kolkata's sex trade. Freeset make quality jute bags and tee shirts and now offer a range of scarves. These women were forced into prostitution by trafficking or poverty, It’s important to remember that the women did not choose their profession it was chosen for them. When the women choose to work at Freeset, they can start new lives, regain dignity in their communities, and begin a journey towards healing and wholeness. All profits from Freeset in Kolkata benefit the women (salary, health insurance and retirement plan) and are used to grow the business. This means more women can be employed and experience freedom. As Freeset says “our business is freedom!”

When in store we invite you to visit our retail market place area, view our freeset products and partner with us to change the lives of these women and their families.
